Calibration Services
Dimension: Air Velocity Measurements
Air flow velocity measurement is an important requirement within HVAC, chemical, environmental and pharmaceutical industries. The measurement is usually performed by using an anemometer. There are two main types of anemometers, namely thermal anemometers and vane anemometers, commonly used by the industries. The first type senses the cooling effect of a moving gas stream passing over an electrically heating sensor. The second type relates vane rotary speed to air flow rate.
The Laboratory has set up a wind tunnel and a laser Doppler anemometer to perform the calibration. The wind tunnel generates air flow at specific velocities, while the laser Doppler anemometer measures the velocity of the flow in the wind tunnel. The setup is used as a reference standard to provide the calibration service. The calibration service covers air velocity calibration from 0.2 m/s to 35 m/s.
