On April 25 2017, the Award Presentation Ceremony for the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme 2017 (“the scheme”) was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, 25 outstanding undergraduates were awarded scholarships for their passion and dedication to pursue their dreams in different fields of innovation and technology.
Jointly supported and sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) and HSBC, and organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG), the scheme is in its seventh year, during which time a total of 175 outstanding local undergraduates from science streams have received this support.
At the awards ceremony, the Honourable Nicholas W. YANG, JP, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, HKSAR Government, stated, “The Innovation and Technology Bureau and the Scheme share the same mission – to nurture young talent and to pave the path to a rewarding career for them as productive members of our society.”
The main purpose of the scheme is to nurture talent in the field of innovation and technology. According to a survey of the status of past awardees, nearly one-fourth (23%) of them continue to study in InnoTech-related programmes and 60% have been working in the InnoTech-related field since their graduation. These encouraging results illustrate how the scheme can truly facilitate the development of Hong Kong’s innovation and technology.
