InnoCarnival 2017 Concluded with a Great Success
InnoCarnival 2017, the anchor event organised by Innovation and Technology Commission, was successfully held from October 21 to 29 at Hong Kong Science Park. This year, the event carried the theme of "Live Smart.Be Innovative" and introduced smart living while promoting a local innovation and technology culture.

Mr Nicholas W Yang, Secretary for Innovation and Technology, officiated at the opening ceremony, “Strengthening popular science education and increasing public awareness are essential in driving I&T development. Through a wide variety of activities, the InnoCarnival promotes science and technology knowledge across the community and raises public awareness of the importance of I&T to the economic and social development of Hong Kong. I hope the carnival would encourage the public, in particular the younger generation, to have more interest in I&T, as well as inspire them to pursue a career in the field and work for the betterment of society," he addressed.

The nine-day InnoCarnival 2017 showcased a wide range of local innovative inventions. More than 600 activities and 60 pavilions generated a great deal of interest, including a double security system to verify a person's identity with behavioural characteristics of lip motions, a 3D Virtual Campus System and a temperature control mug which integrates the functionality of a boiler and a freezer. A number of medical technologies were also displayed, including the "Rehabilitation Training Platform for Stroke Patients" which can train patients' upper limb motor functions and provide therapists with the information to assess the condition of these patients.

The popular cartoon icon McMug continued to be the I&T ambassador for InnoCarnival 2017. The tailor-made interactive game "McMug, Free from Fossil Fuel" allowed the participants to discover more about clean technology in a fun-filled way.

The specially designed promotional truck "InnoForce", roving through various districts from September 30 to October 13, received an overwhelming response from the public. Over a thousand visitors were experiencing how I&T can improve their daily life by participating in the interactive virtual reality (VR) game and other activities in the truck.
