To attract and nurture more technology talent across Hong Kong, the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) launched the “Technology Talent Scheme” (TTS) on August 22 on a pilot basis for five years.
There are two programmes under the “Technology Talent Scheme”:
- Postdoctoral Hub Programme
This programme provides funding support to recruit up to two postdoctoral talents in organisations undertaking research and development (R&D) projects under the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) as well as the incubatees and tenants of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) and Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited.
The ITF will provide a monthly allowance of $32,000 for each postdoctoral talent to carry out R&D activities for up to 24 months.
Each individual must possess a doctoral degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and/ or Mathematics from either a local university or a well-recognised non-local institution.
- Reindustrialisation and Technology Training Programme (RTTP)
The RTTP subsidises local companies on a 2:1 (Government: Enterprise) matching basis to provide staff training in advanced technologies, particularly those related to “Industry 4.0”.
The RTTP provides each eligible enterprise with up to $500,000 per year. The trainees must be Hong Kong permanent residents and employed by a
non-government and non-subvented local enterprise.
In addition, ITC is providing more funding support through local public technology funding schemes for private companies for conducting in-house R&D, which may also be in collaboration with local universities or research institutions, or for technology adoption, etc.
