InnoCarnival 2018 concludes with a great success
Organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), InnoCarnival 2018, held at the Hong Kong Science Park, was successfully concluded on November 11. Carrying the theme of “Innovate for a Smart Future”, the event showcased numerous smart city technologies and local innovations. With visitors of all ages participating in a wide range of activities and programmes, InnoCarnival 2018 has greatly enhanced awareness and understanding of innovation and technology (I&T) among members of the public in Hong Kong.

The nine-day InnoCarnival 2018 offered a variety of activities including exhibitions, workshops, guided tours and seminars by distinguished scholars and industry experts, allowing the public to get hands on experience of the creative innovations and technological achievements developed by local universities, research and development centres, professional bodies, government departments, technology enterprises and non-governmental organisations. A number of gerontechnologies, smart living and medical technologies were showcased, including the palm fusion biometric access control system for identity verification; autonomous driving technology; the portable charger kit for electric vehicles; the spectacle lens that can slow down myopia progression and the fall prevention exercise game to enhance balance for the elderly.

A series of inventions and projects awarded at previous local student science competitions, such as the “iWheel”, a motorised device which can be installed easily on different types of wheelchairs at a low cost, and the “Thermal Life Jacket”, a lifejacket with a light exothermic system which operates with thermal cycles and is able to maintain a temperature of 40oC for an hour in cold water, were displayed at the InnoCarnival.

In addition, various weekend activities such as the Innothon 10KM and InnoFiesta highlighted the event. McMug continued its role as I&T ambassador for InnoTech Month 2018. To enhance interaction with visitors, an interactive game, “McMug the Smart Housekeeper”, was featured during the Carnival.
